Seven Quick Takes

On Monday, you may have seen that my fingernails looked like this:

Already a little chipped...

Already a little chipped…

Today, they look like this:

Nails on Friday

Because yesterday, they looked like this:

That didn't last a week!

That didn’t last a week!

Here’s my question: Should I buy the clear polish for a base and topcoat since I like the color so much, should I try to use it with solvent-based base and topcoat, or should I cut my losses and only paint my nails with it just before a big event, and remove it after?

Oh, in case you’re wondering, this week I look like this:

Once, I wondered if I'd ever look pregnant...

Once, I wondered if I’d ever look pregnant…

I had an appointment with my obstetrician yesterday, and there were a few big developments: I gained ten pounds since my last visit (two weeks ago), bringing my total weight gain up to 50 pounds and putting me past a big milestone weight that I never, ever thought I’d see; My feet are still swollen (big surprise) and so I have to rest over the weekend; I don’t have any other signs of complications, but I’m going to have to start fetal non-stress tests twice a week in a few weeks – because of my age.

I’m not looking forward to my weekend of rest. My bathroom is dirty, my bedroom needs sweeping, there’s laundry to be done, the nursery needs to be emptied out and cleaned before painting, and I have to send my husband grocery shopping alone. I figured it would be okay to go to Mass, my baby shower tomorrow, and my Bradley childbirth class, but housework is right out. I’m going to be bored. I sympathize a little with women who have to rest through their entire pregnancies. I have been very blessed not to have any serious problems.

I do have a couple of friends who are having serious problems in their pregnancies. Please join me in praying for them.

The fall stuffies and sneezies have taken hold of my house. They hit Brett harder than they have me, but I have sneezed about ten times in the last half hour. I am trying really hard not to take any medication for the sake of the babies, but Claritin is looking pretty attractive right about now.

I ran out of takes. I guess that means I can’t take it anymore ;).

Have a wonderful weekend! God bless you!

  1. I’m guessing you and I weigh about the same thing (I passed a certain large round number at my last appointment), but I’ve only gained 18 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. (That’s meant to make you feel better about your pre-pregnancy weight, just in case it comes across as bragging about my lack of weight gain.)

I have been in some kind of “Clean ALL the Things!” mode this week, which annoys my husband because he has to do all the stuff that involves climbing on chairs and he’s busy enough with work and stuff.

Not a medical professional, but I’m pretty sure Claritin is Category B. Of course, you shouldn’t ask me; I’ve been poisoning my kid with albuterol since ragweed season got started.

    • I’m not sure what category B means… my doctor said I could take it, but I just see medicine as a last resort. If my asthma was bad enough to need an inhaler regularly, I would certainly use it. As long as I have a box of tissues, a glass of water, and some saline nasal spray, I should be okay.

      • The FDA has a bunch of categories for medications in relation to pregnancy (and maybe breastfeeding?). Category B means that there’s no evidence that it causes harm in human pregnancies. Catgeory C means that risk cannot be ruled out. (Albuterol is in this category. Of course, I don’t actually think I’m poisoning my kid–he’s at very little risk now that I’m in the third trimester, and not being able to breathe properly is worse for both of us.)

I’m generally pretty stingy with medications myself. I think I’ve taken Tylenol all of twice this pregnancy, even though it’s supposed to be quite safe.

  2. Nail polish chipping is SO frustrating. I just quit biting my nails (for good this time, I hope!) about 2 1/2 months ago, and keeping them polished really helps, but it’s an every-other-night thing practically (b/c while I throw some clear (with sparkles) on every once in a while, I’m loving the fall neutrals!). If you figure something out, please let me know!

You look great!!! Hope all continues to go well without complications. You are in my prayers daily and I will add those you mentioned who are struggling with their pregnancies.

    • I don’t bite my nails, but I pick at my cuticles and I had forgotten how much painting my nails helps with this. As a teenager, I constantly had my nails painted. Maybe I should make it a habit again.

Thanks for the prayers. I really appreciate it. You are always in my prayers too.
