Jen at Conversion Diary created a new template for Friday Quick Takes, and I think it is going to be rocking to use this. It should save me a lot of time. I wish I could write code.
No Quick Takes next week. Please pray for me and Dr. S. as I have a tendon resection surgery in my right thumb. I am right-handed, so pain in my thumb makes my life more difficult than I thought it possibly could. I hope after this, I will feel better.
Pride is a deadly sin that I have been struggling with a lot in the anticipation of my surgery. I don’t know what I’ll be able to do for myself, and what I’ll need help with. Pride, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia, is “the excessive love of one’s own excellence.” Not that I think I’m excellent, but I find it very difficult to be served. I’m a Martha (actually, when I was received into the Dominican Lay Fraternity earlier this month, I even took the name Martha). I told my husband I’m scared of being helpless, and he said “Some people like to help, and if there was no one who needed help, there would be no one for them to help.” It took a few tries to explain what he meant (circular much?) but I know he’s right. Sometimes it is our turn to serve, and sometimes it is our turn to be served. Maybe I need to spend a few days being a Mary and sitting with our Lord instead of constantly trying to serve Him in others.
I got to see my nephew last weekend. He’s so chubby, you just want to bite his cheeks.
I saw a lady online who is a dog water therapist. Sounds like a fun job to me: swimming with the doggies. I love animals.
Kristin shared this with me: The Sound of One Hand Washing (from the now-defunct blog “The Grok Project”). Watch the video. I don’t think I’ll be using this fellow’s method for hand washing because it is too hard to get the back of your hand clean, but I was fascinated. Many of us never think what it might be like to be missing a limb, but this guy really tried to get a feel for it. I should have use of some of my fingers after my surgery, so it won’t be like tying my hand behind my back. I just don’t know what I will and will not be able to do.
I have my light up pumpkin on my desk and plugged in today. Cheerful and autumn-y. I love it!
