I missed Seven Quick Takes last Friday because I was not feeling well. Luckily I’m better this week so I can share my random musings with everyone. I’m sure you’re so thrilled.
Choir practice has become an unexpected prayer time for me. I love this. It is wonderful to sing the prayers to God and His Good News… over and over again. In practice, you get a chance to try until you do it right. It’s too bad more choir members (and other parishioners who aren’t in the choir… yet) don’t feel this way. We’ve been doing pretty poorly on attendance lately. We have a large parish with four Masses every weekend—the choir only sings at one of them. We usually have only about 12-15 choir members any given Sunday. Any given Thursday, 6-8 people show up to practice. Haven’t they ever heard that practice makes “perfect?”
I’m excited to be blogging about every book I read this year. I hope I can keep it up. My reading habits would be severely curtailed if it weren’t for our delightful parish library and terrific public library system. I can’t afford all those books!
Have you ever heard of The Light Weigh? The Light Weigh is a 12-week Catholic spiritual growth weight-loss program. I am participating (for the third time around) in Light Weigh at my parish. We had a good group last night for our week 1 meeting. In the program, you learn how to eat only as much as you need, you learn to set yourself aside. You receive tools to become mindful of your eating like sacrifice beads, Bible study, and a daily Ignatian review. It is a wonderful program—I lost fifteen pounds before my wedding on The Light Weigh. Unfortunately, you have to continue eating that way after the 12 weeks are up, which I did not do. The second time around, I didn’t even eat that way during the 12 weeks. I now have gained back all that weight. I am ready to commit this time. I hope I can keep it up. The only drawback to this program is that the videos were made in 1999 so they are a bit dated. I hope that Suzanne Fowler, the founder and presenter of the Light Weigh, will make new videos someday.
We’re still waiting to hear back from the company that interviewed Brett. Maybe today.
Aren’t pets entertaining? We have four bunnies and a cat that keep us in stitches around the house. We put out some cheap carpet runners this week and now we get to watch the rabbits run back and forth, hopping and dancing. When they are not on the runners, the cat likes to roll around in, on and under them. So cute!
A smile for you from St. Therese of the Child Jesus.
God bless you with a safe and happy weekend!
