Seven Quick Takes, Volume 50

Hot day yesterday, hot day today, hot day tomorrow. Aargh!

Why is it that the cool, comfortable clothing for hot weather all has to be pressed? In order to look somewhat work appropriate on days like today, I have to spend at least 30 minutes with a steaming appliance in my hand. Does that make sense? I at least put the ironing board and the iron in the basement, where it is cooler, but it’s still not so nice once I get started.

I’d rather not…

I took the Nutritional Typing test on Dr. Mercola’s website. He says I’m a Protein Type and I should eat meat at every meal. That sounds tasty, but who’s going to pay for such a sumptuous diet? I can’t afford that. Then as part of the subscription, you get updates by e-mail and today’s e-mail had something to do with how some dentists and physicians believe that root-canaled teeth always remain infected and can cause a whole bunch of diseases. I have a root canal as the result of a car accident (still no other cavities, knock wood). I wish I hadn’t signed up. What you don’t know can’t hurt you, right? Okay, I guess it can, but I at least would be blissfully unaware.

We finished watching Hatfields & McCoys last night. We found out that there is a statue of “Devil Anse” Hatfield on his gravesite.

This is where Devil Anse is buried

There are also historical sites related to the feud. Now we have another place to visit when Brett takes me to see Minor League Baseball in Charleston (WV Power) and Princeton, WV (Princeton Devil Rays… okay, just Rays, but someone insists on the former name)

Today is the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.

If you are Catholic and you abstain from meat on Fridays, you can eat meat if the Friday is a solemnity like today. Steak for dinner tonight!

I’m still praying for religious freedom. I can’t force you to live by my beliefs, and you shouldn’t be able to force me to live by your beliefs (or lack thereof). Freedom of religion is freedom to live your life according to your beliefs every day, not just freedom to worship as you choose on one day per weekend.

  1. Yeah, meat today, although, the omega 3 in fish makes me feel guilty about it anyway! And yes, let’s keep praying for religious freedom. I was surprised by the SCOTUS decision, but we’ve got to keep praying and carefully choosing our representatives. God bless you.

    • I have blouses and things that have little details that don’t look right just tossed in the dryer. Our dryer even has a special setting for it, but some things still come out looking tired.
